EP 48: Living In The Moment, Fitness Habits And OverComing What-Ifs With Pamela Hobby
Pamela is such a ray of sunshine. Her commitment to self-care is inspiring and so is the way she cares for other people.
Time passing, personal choices, keeping calm. Hear ways of letting go of guilt and being kinder to yourself during pregnancy and postpartum.
First-time mom Pamela loves watching her 4-month-old son grow in front of her eyes. Seeing him change, outgrow clothes, and learn the world around him has made her think about just how quickly these moments pass and has made her appreciate the little moments that much more. She talks about how it’s like having a physical representation of time and acknowledges how much she too has grown since becoming a mother.
It’s a good reminder to prioritize self-care, something Pamela knew would be hard to find time for if she didn’t start by making it a routine during pregnancy. She describes deciding on what self-care practices felt important to her and then creating habits around them.
She now commits to finding time for fitness and mindfulness throughout the day. She plays classical music while changing her son in the morning as a way to create a calming environment for both of them to start the day.
Pamela discusses having a fit pregnancy. As a runner before pregnancy, she worked with her OB-GYN to safely continue her runs. She talks about the stigma around weight gain during pregnancy and how easy it is to internalize comments that others make. She underlines that as long as you and baby are staying healthy during the pregnancy, it can feel empowering to know your own body and make choices that feel right for you.
Pamela is the CEO of My Doctor’s Meds, a company dedicated to meaningful support for medical professionals. She was inspired to start the company several years ago after talking to a doctor about her own of her battle with ALL Leukemia as a child, the doctor teared up and remarked that how easy it is to feel numb to their work after a while and how seeing her made it easier to go to work the next day. After learning some staggering statistics about medical professionals own wellbeing, she realized that don’t always receive the support or care they need to continue in their profession, so she works towards sharing complex patients’ stories that highlight all the services the providers did for them in their care.
Pamela speaks beautifully about the care she received from her doctors and also about the strength and love her parents showed. Pamela reminisces on her own mother caring for her during her hospital visits as a child, taking down notes and reading her stories, and how much hope it brought her.
In speaking about how her experience as a child affected her thoughts on motherhood she talks about working with a geneticist before she got pregnant to help relieve the anxiety of possibly passing anything to the next generation. She got the good news and through the support of her husband she felt confident that they could work together to problem solve anything else that might come up along the way.
